Introduction

Linclaw Consulting AB operates Ember Books, an iOS application that delivers AI-generated novellas. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

Information We Collect

Information you provide

An opaque Apple user identifier when you sign in with Apple — a random string assigned by Apple that identifies your account. We do not receive or store your name or email address.
Paragraph feedback you submit via the long-press report feature.

Information collected automatically

Reading progress — the chapter and position you have reached in each book, synced to our servers so your place is restored on any device when signed in.
Reading session analytics — session duration, pages read, estimated words per minute, and time of day. Used in aggregate to improve the reading experience. Never sold or shared with advertisers.
Purchase records — book purchases made through Apple App Store, including the Apple transaction ID and price paid, stored so we can verify and restore your library.
Device information — iOS version and device type, used for debugging.

How We Use Your Information

To deliver purchased book content to your device.
To sync your reading position across devices when you are signed in with Apple.
To restore your purchased library on a new or reinstalled device.
To review paragraph feedback and improve book content.
To analyse reading patterns in aggregate and improve the app.
To comply with our legal obligations.

We do not use your data to display advertisements. Ember Books contains no ads.

AI-Generated Content

The books in Ember Books are generated by Claude, Anthropic's AI, running via AWS Bedrock. Paragraph feedback you submit may be processed by the same AI to suggest corrections. Your feedback text is sent to our servers and processed by Anthropic's model; it is not used to train Anthropic's models. See Anthropic's privacy policy for details on their data handling.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers operated by Linclaw Consulting AB, hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS Lightsail) in the EU. We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Book content is also cached locally on your device for offline reading.

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time (see Your Rights below).

Third-Party Services

Apple App Store / StoreKit — processes all payments. Apple's privacy policy governs their handling of payment data.
Apple Sign In — optional. We request only an opaque user identifier from Apple; we do not request your name or email address.
AWS / Anthropic (Claude) — paragraph feedback and AI generation processing. Data is processed in accordance with AWS and Anthropic's data processing agreements.

We do not use Google AdMob, Supabase, iCloud, or any advertising networks.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share data only as described in the Third-Party Services section above, or when required by law.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you.
Request correction of inaccurate data.
Request deletion of your account and all associated data. In-app: Settings → Delete account. By email: see Contact below.
Export your reading progress data.
Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (for EU residents, the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection — IMY).

As a Swedish company we process EU residents' data under GDPR. The legal basis for processing is performance of a contract (delivering books you have purchased) and legitimate interest (improving the service).

Children

Ember Books is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
